Follow our handy step by step guide to remaining leak free and confident in sustainable, reusable, washable period pads and pants!

1. Wear absorbent heavy flow period underwear

Heavy periods, flooding, clots, postpartum bleeding, endometriosis, they handle it all! As well as wanting to feel safe and confident when you have your period, comfort is a huge factor. Our pants have varying levels of absorbency to give you support on light flow days and heavy flow days. In over a dozen styles, with three different 'feels' - jersey, satin and bamboo, in low rise and high waisted pairs we feel we have every customer covered.

For days where you would change disposable pads or tampons every couple of hours or avoid leaving the house and being away from a toilet for fear of leaking our Feeling Fearless heavy flow pants will last you perhaps double the time - even with perimenopausal flooding I can wear them up to 8-12 hours, amazing for overnight. I would change at this point more for hygiene and to feel fresh.

For light periods or moderate flow, one pair may last you all day. We have plus sizes in production too!

2. Wear reusable pants with absorbency from front to back waistband

Period pants are rising in popularity so quickly, they are now available in supermarkets and on the High street. When choosing which company to go for, making sure that the absorbing layers AND the waterproofing in your menstrual underwear goes from the front waistband through to the back waistband gives you the most chance of staying leak free.

Cheeky Pants have a cooling layer of cotton next to your skin, then at least 2 layers of absorbent material (more in our heavy flow pants) - all vegan approved - no wool, followed by a waterproof TPU layer to stop leaks and this goes all the way through allowing you to sleep or lie down on the sofa knowing you are covered and won't leak over the top of the gusset.

3. Switch to more absorbent bamboo reusable pads

Bamboos absorbing capabilities make it the perfect fabric for washable period pads. Our reusable pads manage to stay slim whilst soaking up far more than tampons or disposable towels. It manages to be super thirsty even when thin, whilst avoiding chemicals, super absorbent polymers and bleaches . Bamboo also has antibacterial properties helping to keep you fresh and cool. We can't quantify it (YET) with scientific data but customers report big reductions in period pain, amount of blood lost and length of their period when switching to reusable products - leading to less leaks and less disruption to your normal routine. Tampons not only absorb blood, they absorb all of the vaginas natural lubrication which can change the bodies pH leading to an increased risk of infections such as toxic shock syndrome. Experts recommend tampons are not used overnight.

4. Wear winged non slip cloth pads, especially at night

As you shift around during the day or when you are sleeping at night our non slip winged organic pads will stay in place and keep you leak free, aiding restful sleep. No sticky glue to give you a surprise bikini wax! Made with organic cotton they are cooling and feel the same as your normal underwear material, the black fabric makes them inconspicuous and are great for teens who don't want to see too much blood, or for under their leotard for gym or ballet!

Wondering how to store your used period underwear or pads?

We have lots of advice on how to wash and store your used period underwear and pads.  You can soak them in our soaking box or mini strucket with a drop of tea tree oil, some stain remover or a scoop of your normal washing powder until you are ready for a load to go on, or once rinsed they can be dry pailed in our soaking box or in wetbags! Be sure to stick to a cold wash up to 30 degrees and avoid fabric softener!
